Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Sailor\u2019s Hope villagers in ward 14, Bubi District, Matabeleland North are appealing for financial assistance to construct an administration block and a teachers\u2019 cottage at Esiphikeni secondary school for the school to be granted an examination centre status.<\/p>\n

Cite reports that the learners at the school currently write their examinations at Somvubu secondary school at Inyathi centre which is almost 45km away from home.<\/p>\n

Mr Sihlangu Dlodlo, one of the villagers, told CITE that some learners walk for more than 10 km to the school but they have been producing good results.<\/p>\n

He added they were concerned that the school is not an examination centre at the moment. Added Dlodlo:<\/p>\n

For a school to qualify as an examination centre it must have an examination block which has a safe so that the examination scripts can be locked inside.<\/p>\n

The school must also have a teacher\u2019s cottage within the premises and this particular secondary school does not have these facilities, as a result, the learners have to travel to write their examinations 40km away which is at Inyathi business centre. Parents have to budget and look for money to rent rooms for their children for the duration of the examination because they can\u2019t commute on a daily basis.<\/p>\n

He said some parents are not able to rent for their children, leading them to drop out of school. He added that most girls are being harassed by illegal miners at Inyathi.<\/p>\n
