A HARARE woman is suing Halsteds Builders Express for US$35 000 after she was hit by an automated door fitted by the company at a Borrowdale shop.<\/p>\n

Runako Punungwe says she is living in pain since March 3 this year and continues incurring medical costs at a time she is no longer able to fend for herself as a self-employed person.<\/p>\n

She contends, Halsted was negligent by not putting warning signs at the entrance.<\/p>\n

She told the High Court that there was a hazard at the door as such there was need for caution.<\/p>\n

According to her summons, doctors who examined her have not ruled out possibilities of a permanent disability that has already forced her to use an ankle guard.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe accident caused the Punungwe to sustain injuries, pain and suffering, loss of amenities, financial loss in the form of medical expenses and anticipated future medical expenses as well as legal costs,\u201d reads court papers.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a result of the accident caused by the Halsteds Builders Express\u2019 negligence, Punungwe suffered mild swelling of the left ankle joint region, tenderness over anterolateral aspect of ankle joint line and tenderness over base of fifth metatarsal.<\/p>\n

\u201cPunungwe continues to discover more injuries as she continues to go for medical examinations and check-ups. She has endured and continues to endure pain and suffering,\u201d wrote her lawyers.<\/p>\n

Punungwe is claiming US$15 000 for pain and suffering, US$10 000 for loss of amenities, US$2 000 for mental anguish, humiliation and embarrassment.<\/p>\n

She is also claiming US$500 for disfigurement, US$2 010, 46 and US$5 000 for future medical expenses.<\/p>\n

The case is yet to be heard.<\/p>\n
