Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Vice President Chiwenga has accused the opposition-dominated Bulawayo City Council (BCC) of running down the second-largest city in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

The former army boss made remarks while addressing ZANU PF supporters in Bulawayo last week where the party was campaigning for 26 March by-elections and 2023 harmonised elections. He said:<\/p>\n

It is high time that we say enough is enough. We are all aware that Bulawayo City Council, has farms in the peri-urban environments, the farms used to be massive sources of employment, particularly for the local people, the sad story is that the farms have been parcelled and rented out to council employees.<\/p>\n

This council has dismally failed. They have failed the electorate and people of Bulawayo.<\/p>\n

Is it not a shame that the current opposition-led councils have selfishly decided to rent out revenue streams to themselves and changed business, where is their conscience<\/p>\n

He added that the city council used to own and run numerous strategic business units as part of diversification so that they do not solely depend on revenue from rates.<\/p>\n

Among other issues, Bulawayo, previously the industrial hub of Zimbabwe, is saddled by perennial water challenges.<\/p>\n

This is happening when the Zambezi water project, mooted in 1912, is taking longer to be completed. The project is aimed at eradicating Bulawayo\u2019s water challenges once it is complete.<\/p>\n

Addressing his supporters in Bulawayo on Saturday, the Citizens\u2019 Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, promised that he will complete the project when he gets into office.<\/p>\n
