Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Wednesday rejected the voters\u2019 roll released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for use in by-elections set to be held next weekend and demanded the use of the 2018 roll after irregularities were unearthed on the current document.<\/p>\n

ZEC on Tuesday announced that it will use separate voters\u2019 rolls for the local authority and the National Assembly polls.<\/p>\n

Addressing a Press conference in Harare, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the opposition party wanted ZEC to use the 2018 voters\u2019 roll version and the 2008 delimited ward and constituency boundaries. Mahere said:<\/p>\n

We are watching ZEC\u2019s conduct very closely in this by-election. This by-election will give us a sense of their readiness and capacity to act lawfully and fairly in the 2023 elections.<\/p>\n

The CCC has concluded that the current state of the voters roll is not fit for the purposes of the impending by-elections or any other purposes thereof. CCC is making frantic engagements with ZEC and is also taking up legal measures to compel ZEC to revert to the 2018 voters roll.<\/p>\n

Data analysts, Team Pachedu, recently alleged that the voters\u2019 roll released by ZEC had several irregularities including that:<\/p>\n

1). people registered under the same house addresses are being registered under different wards.<\/p>\n

2). there are registered voters who used addresses of central business district offices, some of which have not been in use for some time.<\/p>\n

3). thousands of other voters were registered under incomplete addresses that do not meet the VR1 requirements for rural voters.<\/p>\n

4). over 177 000 people have been moved constituencies and or wards.<\/p>\n

ZEC responded to Team Pachedu\u2019s allegations saying the roll had been tampered with. The electoral body also said the roll that had anomalies was not the final version.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, law expert, Alex Magaisa who is also a former Chief of Staff in the office of a former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, the late Morgan Tsvangirai, warned CCC against boycotting elections if ZEC refuses to use the 2018 voters roll.<\/p>\n

He said a boycott will only dampen the spirits of the supporters.<\/p>\n
