Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) will be conducting local authority By-Elections in eight (8) wards on the 7th of May 2022.<\/p>\n

The wards where seats are up for grabs are:<\/p>\n

ZEC spokesperson, Jasper Mangwana said all candidates contesting in the by-election were given respective voters roll for their wards at the Multi-Party Liaison Committee.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, some say the process was marred with irregularities with some condemning the ZEC\u2019s voter\u2019s roll.<\/p>\n

Recent reports suggest that there are anomalies on the Kariba Municipality Ward 8 voters\u2019 roll where 87 people registered as voters used stand number 1110 Chiwara, an industrial stand, as their residential address when they registered to vote in Kariba. No one lives at that site, according to reports.<\/p>\n

ZEC says it has no right to deny citizens their right to register as voters as long as they provide acceptable proof of residence.<\/p>\n

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa claims that its members were attacked by ruling ZANU PF supporters as they were conducting a by-election campaign in Chitungwiza.<\/p>\n

Moreover, a letter, seen by Pindula News, suggests that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) recently blocked CCC from holding a rally in Chitungwiza saying the venue had already been booked.<\/p>\n

CCC says the playing field is not even as state institutions including the state broadcaster, state security forces and ZEC are allegedly conniving with the ruling party.<\/p>\n

There have been calls for electoral reforms and some say the by-elections are a shadow of what\u2019s coming in 2023 when Zimbabwe holds harmonised elections,<\/p>\n
