Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, has been crowned the 2021\/22 Premier League Player of the Season for the second time in a row.<\/p>\n

De Bruyne was voted ahead of team-mate Joao Cancelo, West Ham\u2019s Jarrod Bowen, Arsenal\u2019s Bukayo Saka, Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse, Tottenham\u2019s Son Heung-min and Liverpool\u2019s duo, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah. Speaking after winning the accolade, the Belgian national said:<\/p>\n

To win this award for a second time is an achievement that I am really proud of.<\/p>\n

There is so much quality in the Premier League and it is a pleasure to be nominated with so many other great players who have had incredible seasons for their clubs.<\/p>\n

I think my performances this season have been good and I am happy that I have been able to contribute with goals and assists throughout the season.<\/p>\n

Thank you to all of the staff, coaches and especially my teammates because without them this wouldn\u2019t be possible.<\/p>\n

De Bruyne, who first won the award in 2019\/20, is only the fourth player to receive the coveted accolade on two occasions.<\/p>\n

He follows in the footsteps of Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo and Nemanja Vidic, whilst his victory means the trophy has been won by a City player for the third consecutive season after Ruben Dias was recognised with the honour in 2020\/21.<\/p>\n

De Bruyne has been a driving force in City\u2019s pursuit of a sixth Premier League title, scoring 19 goals in all competitions \u2013 his best return for the Club \u2013 providing 14 assists.<\/p>\n

He had crucial strikes against Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester United.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, some say Salah who contributed 23 league goals and 14 assists against De Bruyne\u2019s 15 times and assisted eight, should have won.<\/p>\n
