Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said he is concerned about the rising cases of armed robberies and ritual murders in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

He made the remarks at the National Heroes Acre in Harare this Thursday where he presided over the burial of Retired Major General Godfrey Chanakira who died end of last month.<\/p>\n

He was the Permanent Secretary in Vice President Constantino Chiwenga\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Consoling the Chanakira family at the Heroes Acre, he said; \u201cOn behalf of the revolutionary Party, ZANU PF, Government and indeed on my own behalf, I express my sincere condolences to the Chanakira family, to his wife and children, for the loss of a beloved husband and father.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turning to the rising cases of crime in the country, the president said:<\/p>\n

I am, however, concerned about the rising cases of armed robberies and ritual murders occurring in our country. I, thus, exhort stakeholders in the criminal justice to speedily deal with these emerging negative trends. Equally worrisome are road traffic accidents on our highways.<\/p>\n

Mnangagwa\u2019s remarks come amid reports that some of the assailants are serving or retired members of the uniformed forces.<\/p>\n

Parliament, earlier this year summoned security chiefs over the spike in robbery cases.<\/p>\n
