Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has blamed President Emmerson Mnangagwa for the unending corruption at the National Social Security Authority (NSSA).<\/p>\n

ZCTU\u2019s remarks follow recent reports that the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) had invaded and camped at NSSA\u2019s headquarters in Harare to investigate complaints of alleged malpractices, corruption, and corporate governance failures, among other issues.<\/p>\n

NSSA general manager, Arthur Manase, pledged to end the culture of corruption which has bedevilled the authority since its inception.<\/p>\n

ZCTU acting secretary-general, Runesu Dzimiri told Alois Vinga of NewZimbabwe.com on Thursday that Mnangagwa was failing to find a lasting solution to the problems. Dzimiri is quoted as saying:<\/p>\n

Corruption scandals at NSSA are no longer newsworthy. They have become a permanent staple theme; it appears President Emmerson Mnangagwa is fueling the rot by continuously failing to find a lasting solution.<\/p>\n

What saddens us is the continued silence by top authorities despite the \u201cmovie style\u201d embezzlement of funds.<\/p>\n

The trade unionists questioned the rationale behind the appointment of an \u201cequally suspicious\u201d and compromised labour ministry to serve as a co-investigator into the alleged corruption allegations.<\/p>\n

Dzimiri criticised NSSA for ignoring its critical role of mobilising savings for the payment of social security, and the economic development of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

He lamented over the \u201csustained trend\u201d of \u201ccatch and release\u201d when dealing with suspects who have embezzled NSSA funds in the past.<\/p>\n

When contacted for comment earlier, NSSA spokesperson, Tendai Mutseyekwa, downplayed the allegations, describing them as a ploy to tarnish the company\u2019s management.<\/p>\n

Dzimiri\u2019s remarks come after the president threatened on Sunday to \u201cmake heads roll\u201d at the association over reports of corruption saying \u201d NSSA has been a thorn in our flesh.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Paul Mavima, also instructed the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) board to investigate corruption allegations.<\/p>\n
