Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The Airlines Association of Southern Africa says its members are not deliberately hiking ticket prices in the wake of the Comair grounding.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, the Competition Commission met with airlines to urge them not to inflate prices.<\/p>\n

Comair\u2019s flight suspension left a 40 per cent gap in South Africa\u2019s aviation capacity.<\/p>\n

The Association\u2019s CEO Aaron Munetsi explains that tickets bought closer to the departure date are more costly than those purchased well in advance.<\/p>\n

Aviation expert, Desmond Latham, recently said the rise in prices of flights is a response to the grounding of Comair flights in March this year.<\/p>\n

He said prices have already gone up by around 30 per cent and that\u2019s a natural supply and demand.<\/p>\n

The carrier suspended Kulula and British Airways flights after running out of money.<\/p>\n

The South African government is worried about the impact on tourism.<\/p>\n
