Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Watson Khupe, a former Senator representing People with Disabilities has died. He died on the 17th of July 2022, according to the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).<\/p>\n

His death was announced by Fadzayi Mahere, the national spokesperson of the CCC on social media. Said the law expert:<\/p>\n

We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Senator Watson Kuphe. We extend our sincere condolences to the Kuphe family on this tragic loss.<\/p>\n

Senator Kuphe was a strong pillar in the fight for disability rights in Zimbabwe. He will be dearly missed.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, more details about his death and burial arrangements will be announced in due course.<\/p>\n

Another disability activist, Thandeka Gwizi described Khupe as a brave man. She said:<\/p>\n

He lived his life, he was proud of his Khalanga heritage, he was an excellent father, a husband, an uncle, a brother, and a respected leader who gave sound counsel to his community. He accepted the call to lead People with disabilities with a passion to see people with disabilities live a normal life in this country, something he was still fighting for. He was brave!!!!<\/p>\n

Sending my sincere condolences to the Khupe family & everyone that has worked with Senator Khupe especially the disability movement in Zimbabwe for lobbying for disability inclusion in all sectors. May his works live on! & his works continue!<\/p>\n

Khupe was also the National Chairperson of the umbrella Disabled People\u2019s Organization (DPO) the Federation of Organizations of Disabled People in Zimbabwe, FODPZ<\/p>\n

He was a staunch disability activist. Between February 2011 to March 2015, he was the project manager for income-generating livelihood projects for disabled people at the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Zimbabwe MDAZ. Funding came from the United States of America\u2019s African Development Fund ADF.<\/p>\n

Between 2010 and 2012, he was one of the representatives of disabled people during the making of the 2013 Constitution of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

In 2010 he co-authored a report on disability and the incredible work of disability organisations in Zimbabwe that was published on the UK government website.<\/p>\n
