Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader Lovemore Madhuku has urged political parties in Zimbabwe to accept election results and move on to avoid unnecessary and divisive disputes.<\/p>\n

Madhuku\u2019s remarks come as Zimbabwe is preparing for elections scheduled to be held in 2023. He said:<\/p>\n

The issue of disputed elections is being exaggerated. We have always had disputations that those who had lost, the biggest losers, meaning someone who would be close to being a winning candidate have a tendency not to accept results.<\/p>\n

The fact that they have not accepted the results has caused the dispute so we cannot say we have disputed elections because someone does not accept defeat.<\/p>\n

They should accept defeat or at least consider the results and say I will do better next time.<\/p>\n

In 2018, MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa refused to accept defeat and challenged the results at the Constitutional Court alleging rigging.<\/p>\n

The judges unanimously ruled that there was no evidence of rigging and threw out Chamisa\u2019s application.<\/p>\n

However, despite having less than a year before the next elections, Chamisa is yet to accept President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s victory in 2018.<\/p>\n
