Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe (MSD) has said flash flooding is a possibility in some parts of the country these days hence the need for members of the public to be cautious. In a weather report and forecast seen by Pindula News, MSD also warned members of the public against attempting to cross swollen rivers. Reads the weather update:<\/p>\n

Numerous thunderstorms that dominated the whole country yesterday led to isolated heavy downpours in areas such as Beitbridge 109mm, Mount Darwin 71mm, Nyanga 60mm, Chisumbanje 45mm, Chipinge 31mm, Lupane 30mm, Masvingo 29mm, Wedza 29mm and Mukandi (Mutasa) 28mm. All other measured rainfall amounts were below 25mm. This morning started with cloudy and mild conditions with light rain in most places.<\/p>\n

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, SUNDAY 08 JANUARY 2023<\/p>\n

Cloudy conditions are expected to be predominant in most parts of the country throughout the day. Morning rain and drizzle are expected to be predominant in provinces such as Matabeleland South, Midlands, Masvingo, Manicaland and i\\Iashonaland East while other provinces should start with morning rains and then afternoon showers which could be thundery.<\/p>\n

IMPACTS<\/p>\n

\u2022 Lightning strikes remain a threat to humans and livestock, as well as infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Localized heavy rains may reduce visibility in a few areas, more so at night.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Flash flooding is probable in localized areas especially those that have water-saturated soils, impervious (paved) grounds, wetlands and river basins.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Avoid crossing flooded rivers, swollen streams, areas where flash flooding has occurred or where flowing water is above ankle height. Noting that, a 30 cm depth of flowing water can sweep away large vehicles.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Wait for the water to subside before attempting to cross, even though flooding is caused by heavy rains that occurred somewhere. \u2022 Do not hide or park under trees during thunderstorms or heavy rains.<\/p>\n

\u2022 When thunder roars, go indoors. Stay indoors for at least 30 minutes after the thunderstorms have ended. These are precautionary measures to reduce the chances of being struck by lightning.<\/p>\n

Isolated afternoon thunderstorms are expected in all of Mashonaland, Harare Metropolitan, northern parts of Manicaland, and northern parts of Midlands Provinces. The rest of the country should start off with partly cloudy conditions becoming mostly sunny by mid-afternoon.<\/p>\n
