Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Uebert Angel\u2019s lawyer Lovemore Madhuku on Friday told the media that his client had no personal relationship with the First Family.<\/p>\n

He was responding to the Gold Mafia documentary, a four-part investigation by Al Jazeera\u2019s Investigative Unit (I-Unit).<\/p>\n

Angel was one of the key figures in the documentary where he allegedly offered to launder cash into the country using his diplomatic status.<\/p>\n

During his encounters with the undercover reporters, Angel was secretly recorded boasting about his close relations with Mnangagwa and how much power he wields as a result.<\/p>\n

Madhuku said Angel was appointed Zimbabwe\u2019s Ambassador at Large and Presidential Envoy to Europe and the Americas and his relationship with President Emmerson Mnangagwa was that of a superior and subordinate. Madhuku said:<\/p>\n

My client wants to put right across that he has never ever done anything on behalf of the President, no deals or activities on behalf of the President.<\/p>\n

His relationship with the President of the Republic ED Mnangagwa is one of superior and subordinate.<\/p>\n

My client wants to make it clear that he has no relationship or whatsoever with members of the President\u2019s family, he only has a relationship with the President which is a formal professional relationship.<\/p>\n

He wants to tell you that he has never met with the First Lady because his relationship is with the President.<\/p>\n

Lovemore Madhuku also denied that Angel was involved in any criminal activity. He said:<\/p>\n

My client wants it known that he has not been, has never been, and will never be involved in any criminal activities.<\/p>\n

He would like it to be stated that he has never been involved in any gold smuggling nor has he ever been engaged in money laundering by whatever name it\u2019s called so the insinuations in the Al Jazeera documentary are only baseless.<\/p>\n

He is not on Zimbabwe pay, he is working for the interests of the country at the outset.<\/p>\n

As soon as my client was appointed it was made known to the whole world that he will be the President\u2019s ambassador-at-large.<\/p>\n

There were several people in Europe and other parts of the world that wanted investments in the country with his facilitation, that is a fact.<\/p>\n

In the fourth installment of \u201cGold Mafia\u201d titled \u201cHave The King With You\u201d that was premiered on Friday, 14 April 2023, Angel allegedly asked First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa for her help to launder US$1.2 billion.<\/p>\n
