GOVERNMENT will summon the US Charge\u0301 d\u2019Affaires over possible breach of international law, presidential spokesman George Charamba has revealed.<\/p>\n

This comes after the US Embassy in Harare posted a picture encouraging Zimbabweans to register and vote in the August polls.<\/p>\n

The alleged offense, according to Charamba, will likely result in the government considering a move to bar the USA polling observers from the plebiscite.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday (Tuesday) Zimbabwe government will summon the US Charge for his mission\u2019s act of diplomatic indiscretion over its advertisement which meddles in Zimbabwe\u2019s electoral politics, contrary to Vienna Convention,\u201d Charamba said.<\/p>\n

Statutes within the Vienna Convention speak to respect of sovereign states and non-interference which according to Charamba could lead to severe actions.<\/p>\n

\u201cMatters could come to a head, including disallowing American election observer teams,\u201d the Presidential spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Former Cabinet Minister, Jonathan Moyo, said the US Embassy had undermined the sovereignty of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe US Embassy in Zimbabwe clearly and provocatively crossed the line, and it knew that it was crossing it, to test the political waters to see how deep it could dive into the country\u2019s electoral politics by doing itself what it is already funding local US surrogates to do,\u201d Moyo said.<\/p>\n
