Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>A 22-year-old man has been charged with subverting a constitutional government and incitement to subvert a constitutional government after he allegedly called for the removal of President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF from power.<\/p>\n

According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Blessing Mhembere is accused of committing the alleged offences at Makoni Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza. ZLHR said in a statement:<\/p>\n

In Zimbabwe, authorities have arrested Blessing Mhembere, a 22-year-old man and charged him with subverting constitutional government after he allegedly advocated for the overthrowing of President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s government through unconstitutional means.<\/p>\n

Mhembere is accused of moving around a bus terminus at Makoni Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza and shouting at the top of his voice and mobilising people to \u201cremove President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF political party from power.\u201d He is also accused of having asked those with guns to bring them along as he can use them.<\/p>\n

For allegedly doing so Mhembere was apprehended and charged with subverting constitutional govt as defined in section 22(2)(A) of the Criminal Law (Codification & Reform) Act and with incitement to subvert a constitutional government as defined in section 187 of the Criminal Law (Codification & Reform) Act.Get Pindula News on our WhatsApp Channel<\/b><\/p>\n

Mhembere is being represented by Freddy Michael Masarirevu of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.<\/p>\n

According to the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), under Zimbabwe\u2019s existing laws, a person may be charged with \u201csubverting constitutional government\u201d.<\/p>\n

This is a crime related to but less serious than treason. It is nonetheless an offence which attracts a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.<\/p>\n
