Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>ZANU PF central committee member and businessman Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu will spend another week behind bars in a case in which they are facing a charge of defrauding the government of more than US$7 million under the presidential goat scheme.<\/p>\n

The two appeared before Harare regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, who deferred their bail ruling to July 16.<\/p>\n

Defence counsel Tapson Dzvetero claimed that the arrest of Chimombe and Mpofu is politically motivated.<\/p>\n

In response, Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission lead investing officer Henry Chapwanya disputed the assertion saying the anti-graft body is apolitical.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ministry is bleeding because of that advance payment which it was prejudiced of,\u201d Chapwanya told the court.<\/p>\n

Chimombe and Mpofu were arraigned before the courts for allegedly defrauding the government of more than US$7 million meant for the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme.<\/p>\n

They were arrested almost a fortnight ago after having a fallout with convicted fraudster Wicknell Chivayo over a US$40 million tender to supply electoral material to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n
