Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>PREPARATIONS for the Zimbabwe Medical Association (Zima) annual scientific conference to be held next week are at an advanced stage amid calls by officials for a strengthened health system in the country.<\/p>\n

Doctors from various specialties from all over Zimbabwe will meet and share scientific knowledge and new developments in the medical industry at the conference.<\/p>\n

As is tradition, Health and Child Care minister Douglas Mombeshora will be the guest speaker at the annual conference.<\/p>\n

Speaking to NewsDay this week, Zima president Kudzai Masinire said the event, which would see more than 500 delegates attending, would be held at the Harare International Conference Centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe conference will bring together medical practitioners of various specialties from across the country and beyond,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe converge to share experiences, best practices and explore innovative ways of improving the Health outcomes of the people of Zimbabwe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Masinire said this year\u2019s conference was expected to delve into exciting areas such as digital health and use of artificial intelligence in medicine.<\/p>\n

He said at least 30 scientific presentations selected from more than 100 submissions would be made during the conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost pertinent health issues in Zimbabwe like cancer treatment and mental health will also be exhaustively debated at the conference and recommendations to improve the health system in Zimbabwe will be made,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Masinire said the event would be graced by international delegates who will arrive next week from the World Health Organisation, United Nations Children\u2019s Fund, United Nations Population Fund and other development agencies like Population Services International, National Aids Council and Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost private organisations that partner us are funeral policies like Nyaradzo and Doves. The 20 regional delegates, expected to arrive on Wednesday August 28, will join over 550 local delegates,\u201d Masinire said.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s conference will run under the theme Towards Strengthening Healthcare System in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
