Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>CABINET has approved the Presidential Solarisation Project which seeks to promote the rural industrialisation development agenda by expanding solar-powered infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a post-Cabinet media briefing yesterday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services minister Jenfan Muswere said other benefits of the project included piped water systems, nutrition gardening, livestock watering and household usage of power.<\/p>\n

He said each rural household would be equipped with a solar system which would power electrical appliances, while the solar-powered water systems would use a submersible pump that would enhance agricultural productivity and food security.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe system will be installed in remote locations which do not require considerable grid infrastructure. The Presidential Solarisation Project will build resilient communities and develop communities by using non-polluting green energy sources,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Muswere also said Cabinet had approved the principles of the National Archives and Records Management Bill to modernise the operations of the National Archives of Zimbabwe and for the country to comply with international convention standards.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe name of the department will be changed from National Archives to National Archives and Records Management Service of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Act will provide for the acquisition, storage, preservation and access to the documentary heritage of Zimbabwe, as well as expand the mandate of the National Archives of Zimbabwe when interacting with other institutions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Cabinet also approved the principles of the Lotteries and Gaming Amendment Bill to promote responsible gambling and consumer protection by focusing on the accountability of individuals running gambling companies through imposition of financial penalties and other sanctions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe name of the Lotteries and Gaming Board will be changed to the Gaming Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe board will advise and report to the minister who administers the principal Act at all times in line with the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act (Chapter 10:31).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe functions of the board will be broadened to give the board more enforcement powers to ensure compliance. The terms of office and conditions of service of members will be amended to align with the limit set by section 11(2) of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act.\u201d<\/p>\n
