Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>THE 2024 edition of the Sanganai\/ Hlanganani World Tourism Expo has attracted 408 exhibitors, up from about 270 in 2023.<\/p>\n

Tourism and Hospitality Industry deputy minister Tongai Mnangagwa said the statistics were an indication that the country\u2019s tourism sector was on the rebound after suffering COVID-19 disruptions.<\/p>\n

Addressing journalists at the final media briefing ahead of the start of the 2024 edition on Wednesday, Mnangagwa said the annual showcase had more opportunities on offer for the exhibitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cSanganai\/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo 2024 comes at a time when the global tourism industry is recovering and rebuilding post COVID-19,\u201d Mnangagwa said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is expected to drive new investments, partnerships, and initiatives that will contribute to the development of Zimbabwe\u2019s tourism sector and the wider regional economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seven countries registered to participate at this year\u2019s expo and they include South Africa, Namibia, Malawi, Tanzania, Iran, Angola and Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe\u2019s tourism sector suffered a setback due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which crippled the country\u2019s major businesses.<\/p>\n

The pandemic saw businesses being forced to scale down operations as the government put in place restrictions on people’s movement to curb its spread.<\/p>\n

According to statistics from the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, tourist arrivals to Zimbabwe fell by 40% in 2021, to 375 799 from 630 369 in 2020, due to the impact of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

The 17th edition of the expo aims to showcase Zimbabwe\u2019s unique tourism products, rich cultural heritage and untapped opportunities, while facilitating important discussions and partnerships for the advancement of the global tourism industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith a special focus on fostering business connections, this year\u2019s expo is featuring dedicated business-to-business meetings between international buyers and local suppliers,\u201d Mnangagwa said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese meetings are also providing a platform for meaningful discussions on partnerships, investment opportunities and tourism development.\u201d<\/p>\n
