According to Alfredo Alberto, president of the Conventional Athletics Local Association, close to 125 athletes from all over the country participate in these events, where the sport is a reality.
The manager informed that, on the eve of the event, there were techniques, such as marking the track, watering it and compacting it with a cylinder.
The opening of the championships takes place at 8:00. The first preliminaries are scheduled for today. It should be noted that Namibe has not organized competitions of this kind for a long time, and according to the association’s president, the Federation intended to schedule championships for Namibe, but there was no possibility of holding them due to the bad condition of the Joaquim Morais Stadium. .
“After some restoration work was carried out, the stadium was now given to us in order to hold the championship here to satisfy those athletes who train throughout the year and, finally, the clubs do not have the possibility to take them to the national championships. “, he stressed.
Alfredo Alberto guarantees that the province has ambitious goals to achieve in the championship. “We held the provincial championship and saw good marks in terms of juveniles and juniors. Therefore, we hope that the kids have the same strength shown in the provincial, in order to come out here as winners in our house”, he predicted.
