Lueji A'nkonde expects 1,200 new students

Africa-Press – Angola. Lueji A’nkonde University has 1,200 places available for the next academic year, to be distributed among the different organizational units of the institution, informed yesterday in Dundo, the rector Alfredo Manuel.

Without mentioning the number of vacancies for each of the organic units under the university’s supervision, the rector explained that after registration, to be closed on Friday, the 12th, the lists with the candidates selected for the entrance exams will be posted.

The available places, he admitted, do not satisfy the growing demand by students for higher education in the provinces of Lunda-Norte and Lunda-Sul.

Alfredo Manuel pointed out as the main challenges for the university, for the next academic year, the improvement of administrative and academic management, the encouragement of scientific research, greater coordination with the Governments of Lundas Norte and Sul in the training of staff.

Currently, he explained, the university has five organizational units, namely the Pedagogical School, the Faculties of Law and Economics and the Technical School of Cuango, in Lunda-Norte, and the Escola Superior Politécnica, in Lunda-Sul. Among the organic units, only the Escola Pedagógica do Dundo has its own infrastructure.

The lack of infrastructure, he argued, will be resolved with the construction of university campuses in Dundo and Saurimo, whose works began last June this year. The construction of the two infrastructures, he said, is financed by Endiama.

The investment in each of the university centers, he informed, will be 50 million dollars. “The Dundo campus will also house the central services of the rectory, the Faculties of Law and Economics, with classrooms, including multi-sports courts”.

In turn, he continued, the Saurimo Campus, in Lunda-Sul, is being implemented to house the local Higher Polytechnic School, with classrooms and laboratories. “The university also needs to strengthen its human capital, with 100 new professors,” he said.
