Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, held, on Monday morning, at the Presidential Palace, a meeting with his counterpart from São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Manuel Vila Nova, with whom he discussed matters of bilateral interest.
The Sao Tome statesman traveled to the country to participate in the funeral of the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, held on Sunday at Praça da República, in Luanda. The ceremony was also attended by several other Heads of State and Government and hundreds of national individuals and the population in general.
On the same day, President João Lourenço also granted audiences to the Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, at the Presidential Palace, during which they reviewed the bonds of friendship and cooperation, based on the roots that unite the people of the two countries and Government.
“It was a very interesting and productive conversation,” the Cuban politician told the press. Angola and Cuba marked, this year, another step in the strengthening of relations, with extended and sectorial meetings resulting from the visit to Havana, by the minister of State and head of the Civil House of the President of the Republic of Angola, Adão de Almeida.
On the occasion, the two countries established a set of principles for strengthening, adapting the modality and establishing new lines of bilateral cooperation. Minutes were taken, containing the essence of the discussions held in broad and sectoral forums, to be considered at the time of the XV Session of the Intergovernmental Commission (XV SCVIG).
As a general principle, the parties agreed on the need to review the intergovernmental and interministerial legal instruments, currently at different stages of negotiation, adapting them to a new paradigm of cooperation, with a focus on political and institutional, socio-economic and financial domains.
In the field of Health, it was decided to send high-level specialists for clinical care and training of local specialized personnel at the service of the Hospital Complex for Cardiovascular Diseases “Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento”, as well as the Pediatric Hematological Institute “Dra Victória do Holy Spirit”.
For Higher Education, the principle of reducing institutional intervention in the sending of Angolan students to Cuba was agreed, thus establishing exchange policies between the universities of both countries, with the parties committed to promoting a meeting of deans.
