Complaints by UNITA and CASA-CE lacking legal evidence

Africa-Press – Angola. The National Electoral Commission (CNE) considered, this Monday, “illegible and devoid of legal evidence” the contents of the requests presented by UNITA and CASA-CE, in the context of the contestation of the publication of the final results of the General Elections of 24 August. last.

“The requests of these political parties should be supported by copies provided by the CNE to the list delegates”, defended the spokesman of the National Electoral Commission, Lucas Quilundo, at the end of the extraordinary plenary session that appreciated the content of the electoral disputes presented by UNITA, Democratic Block and CASA-CE.

Speaking to the press, Lucas Quilundo explained that from the analyzes carried out on the applications, it was concluded that the elements presented in the process do not have “consistent evidence” and in the documents displayed by these political organizations there is no reference code for the polling station.

The CNE therefore asked the Constitutional Court not to grant the requests of these political formations for lack of evidence and legal support.

“The CNE is a counterpart in this process and, therefore, in its counter-claims, it concluded that the Constitutional Court must confirm the results released by the election management body”, explained Lucas Quilundo.

As an entity constitutionally in charge of organizing and conducting electoral processes, the CNE is the only faithful depositary of authentic documents in relation to the electoral process, recalled Lucas Quilundo, clarifying that political parties only have copies of authentic documents in their possession CNE .

The CNE spokesperson revealed that many photocopies of the minutes presented are devoid of the identification code of the polling stations, some of them repeated, with “clear signs” of erasures and tampering with the content.

Regarding CASA-CE’s request, Lucas Quilundo said that it also contains the same flaws: “This coalition has attached photocopies of the minutes and not, properly, copies of the minutes of the list delegates that the National Electoral Commission made available to the polling stations “.

Lucas Quilundo said that, like UNITA, in the documents presented by CASA-CE there is also a repetition of the minutes. He clarified, by the way, that the law establishes that the calculation of the results of the General Elections is based on the summary minutes of the polling stations and not on the basis of the minutes of the polling stations.
