Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan League of Friendship and Solidarity with the Peoples (LAASP) held, yesterday, at its premises in Luanda, a conference on the “Life and Work of António Agostinho Neto”, as part of the activities marking the centenary.

Witnessed by the widow and writer Maria Eugénia Neto, the conference had as speakers Emílio de Carvalho, Cornélio Caley, António Quino, Fernando Jaime, Benjamim Fernando and Petelo Nguinamau Fidel.

Tany Narciso was the moderator, while the opening speeches were given by the president of LAASP, Elisa Salvador, and the closing speech by the provincial director of Culture, Tourism and Youth and Sports, Manuel Gonçalves, representing the governor of Luanda, Ana Paula de Carvalho .

Diplomats, members of the Executive, general education students, women from the National Police, Migration and Foreigners Services (SME), Prison Services, General Tax Administration (AGT), artists and journalists stood out among the participants, who for three hours cultural entertainment was offered, with poetry, jesters and theatrical performance, as well as the presentation of communications highlighting the deeds and virtues of the late President and Founder of the Nation, António Agostinho Neto.

The first communication, presented by Bishop Emílio de Carvalho, began with the famous phrase “the most important thing is to solve the people’s problems”, by António Agostinho Neto.

According to the bishop, “the people’s problems” can be summed up in “poverty calmly consented to the religious existence of humanity”, thus constituting one of the problems that overwhelms the Angolan people.

He considered that Neto’s thought is alive and present in the lives of all Angolans, because in his prophetic vision, to live is to know abundance and prosperity. As an example, he mentioned that a life “calmly consented” and in misery, is not life, because human life also consists in the usufruct “of the material goods of our land that must be available to all the poor”.

Cornélio Caley, a historian by training, presented the theme “Ourselves – in Agostinho Neto”. According to the lecturer, the theme addresses two words “Ourselves” pronounced by President Agostinho Neto and which, giving it the proper dimension, first , in the intellectual path of its author, after analyzing the meaning according to the historian, it is a text that intends to awaken the youth in how Agostinho Neto reached the transcendental, the prophet and the philosopher of our times, a fact that puts us, today , permanently invoking his name. “We are in the field of ‘Contribution of studies on Agostinho Neto'”, he stressed.

To close the conference, Manuel Gonçalves, representing the governor of Luanda, Ana Paula de Carvalho, said that the creation of LAASP is, therefore, a representation of the solidarity thought of the late President Agostinho Neto.

“May these reflections serve as sufficient elements for the enrichment of studies on the life and work of Agostinho Neto, launching, from now on, the challenge for this conference to be replicated in other formats, oriented to secondary schools, perhaps even primary schools, in universities and in youth cycles. That they be published, if necessary, to which we will be at the disposal of LAASP for co-edition”.
