Yesterday, in the city of Dundo, the governor of Lunda-Norte considered the first President of the Republic, António Agostinho Neto, an “unavoidable figure”, who led the country to achieve National Independence and promoted initiatives that led to the dissemination and valorization of the continental culture.
Ernesto Muangala, who was speaking at the opening of activities commemorating the centenary of Neto, in Lunda-Norte, highlighted the intervention of the Founder of the Nation in the last moments of the National Liberation Struggle, namely in the military, diplomatic and important political actions, which contributed for Angola to be a sovereign state.
“Remembering Agostinho Neto is a noble task, whose legacy should continue to inspire Angolans”, stated Ernesto Muangala, who praised Agostinho Neto’s contribution to the liberation of the country and the southern African region.
Highlighting Neto’s political, diplomatic, humanist and poetic dimension, the governor of Lunda-Norte appealed to Angolans to transform the celebrations of António Agostinho Neto’s centenary into acts of citizenship, in actions that privilege the mutual spirit and love of neighbor. .
He also added the need to continue transmitting to new and future generations the values underlying the actions carried out by the first President of Angola, as a politician, statesman and intellectual, as well as generalizing knowledge about his life and work, conferring the due prominence to those who actually served the Fatherland with zeal and selflessness.
Governor Ernesto Muangala highlighted the poetic inspiration of Agostinho Neto, highlighting the figure of an international nature as a doctor, humanist, man of arts and culture.
Official schedule of celebrations
The provincial director of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports stated that the political, cultural and artistic activities programmed within the scope of the centenary of António Agostinho Neto will be carried out between the 6th of September and the 11th of November of this year, with the aim of highlight the historical and universal dimension of the Founder of the Nation.
For José Fernando Pinto, the defense and preservation of António Agostinho Neto’s legacy raises the level of responsibility of the organization of activities, since he is a figure who was seen as “a man of the people, who lived with the people and who was committed to the people”.
He urged the population, in this sense, to participate in the activities that mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the first President of Angola. The presentation of a brief history on the 17th of September, opening of the photographic and documentary exhibition on the life and work of the Founder of the Nation marked the first day of the celebrations of the centenary of Agostinho Neto, in Lunda-Norte.
The program, which runs until the 11th of November, the day of National Independence, also foresees the holding of a festival called FENACULT, a provincial phase, to be held in the city of Dundo. In addition to musical and cultural activities, the program also includes an ecumenical thanksgiving service and lectures on the life and work of Agostinho Neto, in the municipalities of Lucapa, Cambulo, Xá-Muteba and Cuango.
Model for new generations
The deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of Uíge, Maria Cavungo, yesterday, in this city, considered the achievements of Agostinho Neto in the political, cultural and social area as a source of inspiration and model of life for the new generations .
At the end of the visit to the photographic exhibition on the life and work of Agostinho Neto, the official highlighted the importance of the population being informed about the achievements of the first President of Angola.
Maria Cavungo highlighted the role of Agostinho Neto in the conquest of National Independence, on 11 November 1975, his contribution to national culture, with the launch of several literary works, among other professional and social activities.
Neto’s work reflected in a museum
More than 80 photographs depicting the life and work of António Agostinho Neto were exhibited yesterday at the Congo Ethnographic Museum, located on the outskirts of the city of Uíge.
Available to the public during the month in which the National Hero’s Day is celebrated (17), the photographic exhibition shows the childhood, family, cultural and political life of António Agostinho Neto.
Speaking to the press, the director of the Congo Museum, Gomes Costa, explained that, in addition to the exhibition, the institution has other works that represent the culture of the local people, especially old pieces of fishing, hunting, agriculture, among others. artifacts.
After being rehabilitated, in 2021, the Congo Museum currently welcomes up to 30 visitors a day, mainly interested in objects that portray the sociocultural reality of the region.
To celebrate the centenary of Agostinho Neto in the province of Uíge, lectures on the life and work of Neto, a book fair, cultural competitions, athletics, motorbike racing and other initiatives are planned.
Born on September 17, 1922, in the village of Kaxicane, in the municipality of Icolo e Bengo, Agostinho Neto was a doctor, poet, politician and statesman. He died on September 10, 1979, victim of illness, in Moscow, Russia, one of the republics of the former Soviet Union.
