Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, yesterday congratulated the Brazilian people on the commemoration of the bicentennial of its Independence.

In a message sent to his counterpart Jair Bolsonaro, President João Lourenço praises the “great role that Brazil has been assuming, with respectable strength, in the context of South American nations and the rest of the world”.

For the Angolan statesman, in this way, Brazil stands as an essential actor in addressing issues of world peace and security, as well as a partner in the development of the countries of Africa and Angola, in particular.

João Lourenço ends the message addressed to his Brazilian counterpart by reiterating the firm desire of his Executive to “continue to make efforts in the sense that the two countries maintain, in a permanent way, the great relations of friendship that bind them”.

The Independence of Brazil is celebrated on the 7th of September, with several public celebrations in the big cities. The date marks the Declaration of Independence of Brazil from the Portuguese Empire on September 7, 1822.
