Africa-Press – Angola. Edmilson Ângelo recently became the first Angolan to speak at the largest youth summit in the world, “One Young World”, in Manchester.
“I’m going to use my minutes to share my testimony and I hope that with that, I’ll be able to inspire everyone in this room, everyone watching live, to do more, to be more and to stand up for something bigger than I’m 29 years old and throughout my life I’ve always heard something about my continent, that Africa is extremely rich, but when I started to change the narrative around my continent and start being part of communities like this one, I began to understand that the wealth of my continent is not oil, it is not diamonds, it is not gold or other natural resources from the Middle East, the wealth of my continent is among its people, it is among its hearts , it is among our youth, it is among the root of existence”, he said, receiving a chorus of applause.
The event, which runs from the 5th to the 8th of September, seeks to bring together world leaders, celebrities, multinational companies and young people who have a worldwide social and environmental impact to promote sustainability and equality in society.
Edmilson Ângelo is the director and founder of an NGO, Change 1’s Life, which has been operating in Angola since 2014.
