Africa-Press – Angola. The Main Command Post of the General Election Assurance Operation recorded, in the last 15 days, 14 acts of vandalization of committees of some political parties and coalitions of parties, carried out by list delegates who claimed non-payment of subsidies.

The information was released yesterday to journalists, at the Luanda Operative Unit, by the spokesperson for the Command Post and Director of Public Security and Operations of the National Police, Commissioner Orlando Bernardo, who said that there were still 58 protests and nine attempts to vandalize political party committees.

Orlando Bernardo stressed that the protests and vandalism resulted in the arrest of 165 citizens, some of whom were fined and others were detained for up to six months, as a result of summary judgments to which they were subjected by the courts in the provinces of Luanda and Huambo.

He explained that on the 7th of this month, in the province of Benguela, there was an attempt to vandalize the Provincial Committee of the Social Renewal Party (PRS), carried out by delegates on the list who demanded payment of subsidies, resulting in two detainees. A similar act took place in Malanje, on the 5th of this month, in the municipality of Marimba, together with the PRS Committee, led by more than 200 delegates on the list, also due to non-payment.

He informed that on the 2nd of this month, in the province of Lunda-Norte, the corporation became aware of three acts of vandalization of the committees of the political parties PRS, FNLA and the CASA-CE coalition, by delegates from the list, which resulted in the subtraction, at the headquarters of the PRS, of 150 seats, 60 flags, a computer, a picture of the president of that party, resulting in the arrest of 12 delegates on the list, as well as the recovery of 46 seats.

In Moxico, the corporation registered two protests in front of the TPA premises, organized by the delegates on the list of the CASA-CE coalition and the FNLA party, who claimed the lack of payment of subsidies.

Orlando Bernardo explained that in the neighborhood of Kapalanga, municipality of Viana, in Luanda, 300 delegates from the list held a protest in front of the PRS party headquarters, where they were also demanding payment of subsidies, resulting in the vandalization of six public buses and the arrest of some delegates of list.

He added that on 2 September, in the Congolenses market, a group of individuals staged riots that injured a National Police agent.

The spokesman for the Command Post for Assuring General Elections said that, in Huambo, a citizen was summarily tried by the local court for having voted on behalf of his brother, which constitutes a crime, for which he was indicted in the practice of crime of violation of the right to vote, punishable in article 184 of the Electoral Law and sentenced to six months in prison and a fine of 100 thousand kwanzas.
