Several Heads of State and Governments continue to congratulate the elected President of Angola, João Lourenço, since the release of the final results of the General Elections, held on 24 August. This Saturday it was the turn of Spain, Guinea-Bissau and Gabon, which joined similar demonstrations on Friday by the United States of America, Portugal and China.
The Spanish Government, through a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, salutes the people and the Angolan Executive for holding the General Elections of 24 August, the result of which was validated on Friday by the Constitutional Court, noting that “they took place in a climate of peace marked by normality”.
The President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, declared that, on behalf of the Guinean people and his own, he wishes the Angolan statesman “warm congratulations” on his re-election.
“On this happy occasion, I would like, on behalf of the Guinean people and on my own behalf, to emphasize the importance of the bonds of friendship and cooperation existing between the two peoples and countries, to reaffirm to Your Excellency my determination to do everything that they develop and consolidate more and more for the benefit of our two friendly peoples”, says the message sent to João Lourenço.
The Guinean President also wished João Lourenço “good health, personal happiness”, as well as “the continued well-being of the Angolan people”, while Ali Bongo Ondimba underlines, in a statement, that “for this choice, the Angolans expressed their desire to continue to be guided by you”.
In addition to Spain, Guinea-Bissau and Gabon, on Friday other world leaders had already congratulated the re-election of João Lourenço. Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, looks forward to working with the President-elect “to strengthen the vital relationship between Angola and the United States. ” “We will continue to collaborate closely with the Angolan Government and the Angolan people to advance our shared goals, while we work together to promote a more sustainable, secure, inclusive and prosperous future”, reinforces Blinken.
“We salute the millions of Angolan voters who voted in these elections and, in doing so, demonstrated their commitment to strengthening democracy. We look forward to working in partnership with Angola’s elected leaders to forge a better tomorrow for all Angolans and Americans”, concluded the US Secretary of State.
On the other hand, the Head of State of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, also congratulated the MPLA and President João Lourenço on Friday for their victory in the General Elections held on 24 August. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Angola, Gong Tao, was a messenger. The Chinese diplomat also took advantage of the moment to speak about the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the most varied aspects, as well as to carry out high-level visits from Angola to China and vice-versa. Meanwhile, on the official page of the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa wrote that “after the electoral process is over, with the ruling of the Constitutional Court of Angola”, it is time to congratulate him on his re-election.
Reactions underline the perspective of stability and security in Angolan foreign policy
On Thursday, Botswana’s Head of State, Mokgweetsi Masisi, congratulated his Angolan counterpart on his re-election to the post of President of the Republic, expressing his conviction that the moment reflects the confidence that the people have in the leadership of João Lourenço.
In the letter, Mokgweetsi Masisi commends the Government and people of Angola for holding peaceful and free elections, reaffirming his country’s commitment to continue working with Angola on a bilateral, regional and international level.
In turn, on the same day (Thursday), the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, presented his congratulations, stressing that this achievement gives the Statesman powers to continue directing the destiny of the Nation.
Luis Abinader expresses, on behalf of the Dominican people, the Government and on his own, the best wishes, so that this new mandate continues to make important contributions to the strengthening of freedom, the maintenance of peace and solidarity.
“We also trust in the continuity of the excellent diplomatic, commercial and cultural relations that exist between our Nations and a renewed impetus for bilateral exchanges between our countries”, writes the President of the Dominican Republic, before reiterating his congratulations to the statesman re-elected in the election of the 24th of August.
Vladimir Putin and Daniel Ortega, respectively, Presidents of Russia and Nicaragua, joined the wave of greetings for João Lourenço’s reappointment.
The Russian President underlines that the re-election to the post of President of the Republic responds, “without a doubt”, to the root interests of the two peoples and continues in favor of strengthening security and stability on the African continent.
“With all my soul, I wish you success and good health and well-being”, writes Vladimir Putin, hoping that this new phase will continue to contribute to the development of constructive bilateral cooperation in several areas, remembering that Russian-Angolan relations based on ancient traditions of friendship and mutual respect.
This is the second time that Russia has congratulated President João Lourenço on his victory in the General Election on 24 August. The first gesture was made by the vice president of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev.
In the congratulatory message, Dmitry Medvedev, who has already held the positions of Prime Minister and President of Russia, said he had no doubt that the political experience and high professionalism of President João Lourenço will contribute to the effective socio-economic development of the Angolan State.
João Lourenço also received congratulations from the President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, who wished João Lourenço and the Angolan people much success in this new phase. “We salute you, Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola, and all your people, for this new victory in the Elections”, he says.
Other Presidents, namely Hage Geingob (Namibia), Cyril Ramaphosa (South Africa), in addition to the Government of Brazil, the competing political parties, through their leaders, Dinho Chingunji (P-NJANGO) and Florbela Malaquias (PHA) also wished good governance for the next five years in office.
The National Electoral Commission (CNE) released the final tabulation minutes of the August 24 General Elections, which proclaimed the MPLA and its candidate, João Lourenço, as winners with 51.17% of the votes, electing 124 deputies.
