According to the statement from the meeting, guided by the party president, read by the BP’s Information and Propaganda secretary, Rui Falcão, the members were previously informed about the positions to be filled within the National Assembly, depending on the results obtained in the last General Elections, held on 24 August.
The BP’s Secretary for Information and Propaganda stressed that the members also reiterated their congratulations to President João Lourenço for his victory in the General Elections on 24 August, wishing him success in managing the country’s destiny during the next term.
Rui Falcão said that the BP reiterated “its deepest” thanks to the entire Angolan people, for the civic and patriotic way in which they participated in the country’s fifth General Elections, “in particular to the entire militant mass, friends and sympathizers who wise and enlightened way, your vote for the party of the heart”.
Finally, Rui Falcão stressed that the members of the BP appealed to all citizens to maintain tranquility, respect for the Constitution and the Law and to continue to work for the development of Angola that everyone wants, in the conviction that the institutions of the State will continue to serve the people and guarantee peace and social tranquility.
According to the results of the last General Elections, the MPLA elected 124 deputies, against 90 for UNITA, its main opponent, while the PRS, FNLA and PHA obtained the same number of deputies: two.
Thus, based on what is stipulated in the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, only the MPLA and UNITA will be able to form parliamentary groups, as they are the only political forces that have obtained more than three deputies.
The Parliamentary Group, in accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, is composed of a minimum of three deputies in full capacity, elected from lists presented by each political party or coalition of political parties, who transmit and defend the policy of the respective political party. or coalition of political parties.
Each Parliamentary Group, constituted under the terms of the internal regulations, must adopt the same denomination with which the political party or coalition of political parties competed in the General Elections.
