Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, was sworn in on Thursday in Brazzaville for a fifth term at the helm of the country, in a ceremony attended by more than 60,000 people.

The main event took place at the Concordia Stadium in Kintélé, 25 kilometers from the city of Brazzaville.

Thousands of citizens went to the site to witness the inauguration, in an atmosphere of celebration and patriotic exaltation.

The ceremony began with the entrance of high-ranking officials and foreign delegations, followed by the playing of the national anthem and the reading of the legal provisions that underpin the act.

In the most anticipated moment, Denis Sassou Nguesso took the oath before the Constitutional Court, committing himself to respect and enforce the Constitution, guarantee national unity, and defend the interests of the Congolese people.

With the oath, the Head of State formalized the beginning of his fifth five-year term leading the country.

Military parade reinforces state authority

After the solemn ceremony, there was a military parade in the same venue, with the participation of different branches of the Armed Forces and security forces of the Congo.

The parade displayed human and technical resources, in a demonstration of discipline and readiness, which reinforce the authority of the State and national sovereignty.

Heads of State in attendance

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several Heads of State and representatives of foreign governments.

The inauguration ceremony counted on the presence of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, and the President of the Central African Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadéra.

Also present were the Presidents of Rwanda, Paul Kagame; Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby; Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema; and Togo, Faure Gnassingbé.

The President of Burundi and current President of the African Union, Évariste Ndayishimiye, was also present at the event.

In addition to the Heads of State, the ceremony was attended by prime ministers, vice presidents, Speakers of African parliaments, as well as delegations from regional and continental organizations, notably the Economic Community of Central African States.
