Africa-Press – Angola. The US President’s special envoy to Angola, to attend the inauguration ceremony of João Lourenço, for the second term, Scott Nathan, praised, Thursday (15), the speech made by the Angolan statesman after being invested in the functions for another five-year term.
Scott Nathan, who was speaking to the press at the end of an audience granted to him by the President of the Republic, in Cidade Alta, said that the Head of State gave priority in his speech to themes that he considered important for the development of the country, namely, good governance, reforms, transparency, anti-corruption, regional security and economic prosperity.
“These are very important topics and I was very impressed”, said Joe Biden’s envoy, noting that he paid close attention to President João Lourenço’s speech.
Scott Nathan made it known that relations between the United States of America and Angola will gain strength in the coming years.
“The key issue here is a proverb that we put into practice that says: if you want to go faster, go alone, but if you want to go further, you have to go together in partnership,” said Andrew Robert Young, deputy commander of Civil-Military Relations from the US Military Command for Africa, also present at the hearing.
This is the first delegation that the US Government sends to Angola to attend the inauguration ceremony of an Angolan President.
Just yesterday, the President of the Republic received, in Cidade Alta, his Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the vice-president of the Japan-African Union Parliamentary Friendship Group, Sakurada Yoshitaka, and the president of the Algerian Parliament, Ibrahim Boughali.
