Africa-Press – Angola. A total of 1,550 tons of cereal seeds will be distributed this week by producer Alféu Vinevala to farmers in the provinces of Bié, Huambo, Huíla, Benguela and Cuanza-Sul.
The initiative is part of an ambitious program being promoted by the agricultural entrepreneur, which aims to make the country self-sufficient in grain production.
Alfeu Vinevala, who during the 2021-2022 agricultural season produced about 2,000 tons of various foods, invested more than one million dollars in the production of 800 tons of wheat seeds, 300 of corn, 250 of beans and 200 tons of soybeans. , which in a first phase will be delivered to local producers and also from the provinces of Huambo, Huíla, Benguela and Cuanza-Sul.
“I have a very ambitious agricultural program, which aims to make the country, in the medium and long term, a reference for cereal production in the SADC area. It is a process that involves more than 70 producers from central and southern Angola, in a total of 12 provinces”, he says.
Investments
For the second phase of the seed production process, which should start within three months, in the town of Eyumbi, municipality of Chingar, the area in which all the coordination work of the set of operations is structured, farmer Alféu Vinevala has in mind the multiplication of more than 5,000 tons of wheat seeds, 700 of soy, 600 of beans and 500 tons of maize, with which it intends to extend the distribution lines to the remaining productive provinces of central and southern Angola, which are part of of the project.
“In June, the Executive presented a cereal production project, which includes, in addition to the provinces included in our project, the localities of the East and already in this path, that we are working on the multiplication of more than six thousand and 800 thousand tons of seeds to massify the production of cereals and other types of grains in the producing regions of the country, with emphasis on the east side”, he stressed.
Alféu Vinevala, which expects to invest more than two million dollars in the 2022-2023 agricultural year, whose start is scheduled for the end of September, augurs a very profitable harvest, in which it has in large-scale wheat production, the biggest productive bet.
“The State’s commitment to the grain segment is quite evident, and the President of the Republic João Lourenço was very incisive in this aspect, during his public interventions. appear to contribute to the consolidation of the country’s Strategic Food Reserve, and with it we can ensure the country’s productive stability for the food security of our populations”, he guarantees.
Manufacturing industry raises production
With the strategy aimed at significantly reducing food imports, especially cereals, Alféu Vinevala told Jornal de Angola that he has planned the installation of a transforming industrial space for the Eyumbi region, taking into account the high production levels in the region.
“The Eyumbi, the Cutato and other areas of the Province of Bié are producing significantly, and the statistical data prove the fact. There are difficulties in the evacuation of this production, which creates surpluses and with it, a lack of use of production. me to aspire, for a medium-term future, to build, here in our region, of manufacturing industries that serve to better use all the productive surplus of the province”, he emphasizes.
The Vinevala e Filhos farm, located in the Eyumbi region, municipality of Chingguar, according to estimates by its mentor, harvested close to two thousand tons of different foods in the 2021-2022 crop year, including corn, wheat, potatoes, beans, garlic, onion and various types of vegetables. In 2022-2023, the farmer expects to harvest twice the production achieved in the previous journey.
