Africa-Press – Angola. More than 500 honey producers in the municipality of Cachiungo have improved their knowledge and modern technical strategies to promote honey production in the district, the municipal director of agriculture in the district said yesterday.

Martinho Kapuka, said that the municipality is among the largest producers of honey in the country, and to encourage honey production activities, the municipal agriculture directorate promoted this training that aims to outline policies for the application of modern methodologies to guarantee the increase in quality and quantity of honey produced locally, as well as ensuring the sustainability of the environment in the region.

The official informed that this year the production of honey was satisfactory, because at this time, the harvest begins and this activity has helped the peasant families who dedicate themselves to this activity for their sustenance, and many of the producers manage, on average, to from their hives more than twenty liters of honey, for each hive.

The head of agriculture said that the municipality of Cachiungo controls more than five hundred beekeepers, highlighted in three locations, Lonundo, Sanguengue and Chamuanga because they are areas where they contain large forests of eucalyptus.

On the other hand, he said that Cachiungo honey is sold in different locations across the country, because of its quality, the price varies depending on the locations where it is sold.

The leader was also concerned with the felling of trees, anarchic fires, which have been one of the factors behind the decrease in honey production, and in this context the agriculture directorate has been promoting and constantly raising awareness of lectures in the communities in order to reduce these acts.
