Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Malanje is once again facing a worrying situation with the resurgence of cholera, particularly in the municipalities of Malanje, Quéssua and Cangandala, where health authorities have stepped up control measures to halt the spread of the disease.
According to the report for the week of 1 to 7 April presented by the Commission led by the provincial deputy governor for the Political, Economic and Social Affairs, Franco Mufinda, there were 29 emergencies and one death, bringing the province’s cumulative total to 1,869 emergencies.
Franco Mufinda called for an immediate strengthening of the response to the outbreak through the mobilization of specialized technical teams.
He urged the members of the Commission to step up awareness campaigns within communities, with particular emphasis on publicizing preventive measures through the media, as well as on mobilizing qualified human resources to contain the spread of the disease.
Cumulative data indicate that the province has recorded 1,869 cases, of which 1,805 have recovered, with 39 deaths representing a 2.4 per cent fatality rate.
