Public Ministry wants to redefine positioning of competences

Africa-Press – Angola. The magistrates of the Public Ministry analyzed, in Luanda, the Organic Statute, with a view to a better framework and positioning of competences, to give a better response to the activity of Justice.

The Deputy Attorney General of the Republic, Mota Liz, defended, during the National Conference of Magistrates of the Public Ministry, that the consolidation of the current statute and think about the role of the Public Ministry in the pedagogical dimension and discuss aspects linked to the organization and operation.

Mota Liz addressed, on Monday, the subject of the autonomy and independence of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, having underlined the need to consolidate the current statute to define a model of the organization of the Democratic State and of Law, of the functioning of the Judiciary System, fundamental rights and compliance with the law as a whole.

According to the lecturer, it is necessary to think about the organization, the working conditions, the preparation of magistrates: “We need to consolidate what the statute already defines. The Constitution defines that the Public Ministry, as an essential institution for the realization of justice, establishes a set of vast competences, enshrines autonomy”.

He said that the most important thing is how to consolidate this statute and put it at the service of the nation, so that each Public Prosecutor can fulfill his role. “It has this statute, not a statute that feeds its vanity, but a statute that serves the social function, that the law is respected for all and that the courts function independently”, he added.

“May justice be done, defending the weakest, the absent, the incapable and the workers”, he stressed, noting that the consolidation of the current statute should allow for the exercise of criminal action and stability.

In turn, lawyer and university professor Benja Satula spoke on “The structure of the Public Ministry in Angola – Changes that are recommended” and defended the autonomy of the Public Ministry.

The National Conference of the National Union of Public Prosecution Magistrates took place at Memorial Dr. António Agostinho Neto, in Luanda, Monday and Tuesday. The magistrates discussed topics such as “Autonomy and Independence of the Public Ministry”, “The Structure of the Public Ministry in Angola – Changes that are recommended”, “The guarantee of rights with collective incidence” and “The relationship with the Criminal Police bodies and the guarantee judge.

Dialogue with the Union

The Deputy Attorney General of the Republic stated that the PGR is open to dialogue with the National Union of Justice Technicians who claim the satisfaction of their rights.

“We are fully open. Whatever is good for us to improve, serves the Attorney General’s Office, serves the State and serves the Nation. Hence, dialogue is permanent”, said Mota Liz, stressing that “in a dialogue there are compromises”.
