Finance Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Ethical Fund Management

Africa-Press – Angola. The Finance Minister, Vera Daves, reaffirmed Thursday in Luanda the government’s total commitment to strengthening the ethical and responsible management of public funds, and holding accountable any contrary practice.

During the discussion of the proposed Personal Income Tax Law (IRPS) at the 7th Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the National Assembly, the minister responded to the deputies’ concerns by highlighting the competent bodies’ support for holding people accused of acts harmful to public finances accountable.

Addressing the corruption case involving several General Tax Administration (AGT) employees, the minister appealed to the MPs’ empathy to prevent the entire institution from being implicated.

“As members of a family, we would not want the whole family considered a den of thieves because one of us has committed a crime or done something considered morally reprehensible,” the minister said.

Vera Daves reaffirmed the commitment to continuing the technical and ethical training of public servants, especially AGT employees, and to providing ongoing reports on the use of collected resources.

Regarding the approved proposal, which received 109 votes in favor, none against, and 98 abstentions, the minister stated that it will protect vulnerable and middle incomes, increase national production, diversify the economy, and reduce inflation.

The minister said that the AGT has the technological capacity to effectively implement the law and added that there is also a tax literacy plan involving professional bodies, associations, technical groups, businesses, the academic community, and the Economic Council.
