Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and the United States of America assessed the state of bilateral relations on Tuesday in Washington, during a meeting between the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, and the Secretary of State of that country, Antony Blinken .
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the US-Africa Leaders Summit, taking place in the capital of the United States of America, until Thursday, with the participation of over 49 African statesmen and businessmen, invited by the US President, Joe Biden.
The same was part of the agenda of the Angolan Head of State, aimed at strengthening economic diplomacy, which has resulted, since Monday, in a concerted meeting with entities from various multinationals and renowned US organisations.
The central theme of the conversation between João Lourenço and Antony Blinken, who was accompanied by the Secretary of Defence, Lloyd Austin, was not revealed to journalists.
Meanwhile, a note from the organization of the US-Africa Summit, made available to the press, informs that the American representatives reiterated at the meeting “the importance that the United States attributes to its relationship with Angola”.
According to the note, “they expressed appreciation for Angola’s role as a regional leader, including President Lourenço’s efforts to bring peace to the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo”, and noted the “strong and growing economic and security partnerships”.
During the meeting, it is added, the parties also discussed shared priorities for the US-Africa Leaders Summit, which marks a turning of the page in economic and trade relations between the United States of America and Africa.
Also on Tuesday, also on the sidelines of the Summit, the Angolan President held a meeting with an important delegation from the World Bank. The content of the subjects addressed is unknown.
Last Monday, João Lourenço received the administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Samantha Power, with whom he discussed the new perspectives for increasing cooperation.
Likewise, he participated in a Round Table with American businessmen, whom he invited to continue investing in Angola, fundamentally in the sectors of agriculture and solar energy.
