New director prioritizes Primary Health Care

Africa-Press – Angola. Strengthening the promotion of Primary Health Care (CPS), training of professionals in the sector and the acquisition of means and medicines, are among the priorities of the new provincial director of Health, Tiago Mário.

Presented this Monday to workers in the sector, Tiago Mário will also prioritize the improvement in care and humanization in municipal hospitals, centers and posts, increasing quality and speed.

Specialized in paediatrics, the new director foresees the construction of more health units.

Moxico’s deputy governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, Wilson Augusto, reiterated the need to prioritize primary health care in order to respond to population demand and demographic challenges.

Official data show that the health sector in Moxico province needs more than 10,000 new technicians, including doctors and nurses.

These factors have made it difficult to improve and expand care in health units in the region, which currently has 135 doctors and 1,421 nursing professionals.

The province of Moxico has 148 health units.

Graduated in medicine and hospital management (Universidade Nova Lisboa – Portugal), and pediatrics at the Hospital David Bernardino, in Luanda, Tiago Mário replaces the doctor Henriques Ramalho.

The new Health manager has already held the position of director of the municipal hospital of Camanongue and General of Moxico.
