Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Cunene, Gerdina Didalelwa, guaranteed, this Friday, in Ondjiva, the increase in the improvement of social services, aiming at local development and quality of life of the population.

Gerdina Didalelwa gave this assurance when speaking at the end-of-year greeting ceremony, which made it possible to address the achievements implemented this year, as well as to foresee future actions.

He explained that for the next five years of his mandate, they will be focused on building social facilities in the areas of education, health, energy, water, communication routes and the macro drainage of the city of Ondjiva.

He said that the expansion, especially of the school and health network in the province, will make it possible to reduce the rate of children out of education, improve care in hospitals, through the commitment of qualified professionals to provide quality service.

He made it known that under the guidance of the holder of the executive branch, the provincial government, had drawn up a base memorandum for the Integrated Intervention Plan 2023/27, with a portfolio of 675 new projects, in execution and at a standstill.

Projects implemented in 2022

Gerdina Didalelwa said that, despite the covid-19 and the drought that hit the province, several programs were carried out with a positive impact on the lives of the populations.

On the occasion, he highlighted the Integrated Plan of Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), where of the 124 Cunene projects, 61 were concluded, leaving 55, which focus on the sectors of education, health, means of communication, water, energy, basic sanitation, among others. others.

He clarified that under the emergency program to combat the effects of the drought in the south of Angola, the province gained the Cafu adductor channel, with an extension of 160 kilometers along which there are 30 chimpacas.

He recalled that in addition to human and animal consumption, the canal will stimulate the practice of agriculture, so around it, there are 15,000 hectares prepared for irrigation, which is expected to guarantee 3,175 jobs.

He asked economic agents to engage and make the most of these resources made available, in order to produce enough food to fight hunger.

The construction of the Ndue and Calucuve Dams was also reviewed, as well as lots 7, 8 and 9, which include the Cova do Leão Dam, which comprises nine dams and the water supply systems in the municipalities of Cahama and Curoca .

In terms of gains, he also highlighted the first phase of construction of the 484 homes, out of a thousand planned, in the Dom Fernando Guimarães Kevano Centrality, as well as the future General Hospital of Ondjiva, with works scheduled for completion in 2023.

Programs in the economic field

Regarding PRODESI, he said that 71 projects were financed, 54 companies and 17 cooperatives, in the field of agriculture, commerce, livestock, fishing and processing industry, with an amount of three billion, 607 million, 119 thousand and 125 kwanzas.

Gerdina Didalelwa underlined that the Social Protection Strengthening Program (Kwenda) benefited 29,415 families in the municipalities of Ombadja and Curoca.

The province of Cunene is administratively divided into 20 communes and six municipalities, with approximately one million inhabitants.
