Africa-Press – Angola. More than five billion 88 million 447 thousand is the amount raised by the Port of Namibe, from January to December 2022, according to the chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the company, Nazareno Neto.

This value is the result of one million tons of various cargo transported during this period, with emphasis on the export of ornamental stones to China, Spain and Italy, in the order of 71 percent.

In all, the Port of Namibe handled one million 307 thousand 500 tons of different cargo, Nazareno Neto told.

Of this figure, 855 thousand 94 tons are from the import and export segment, according to the PCA, which spoke in the context of activities carried out in the year about to end.

He added that in this period more than 452 thousand tons were handled in the cabotage segment and its derivatives.

In the commercial and operational domain, he said that the Port of Namibe registered a historic milestone, by carrying out the largest export operation of ornamental stones since its existence, which dates back to the year 1954.

There were around 52,000 tons of granite in bulk destined for the port of Xiamen, People’s Republic of China.

He explained that this milestone surpassed the highest record of 17,288 tons exported in one of the operations carried out in 2017.

The PCA highlighted the implementation of the Single Port Window (JUP), a web service platform, implemented since July 2022, which increased the efficiency of the port.

He also said that one of the largest industrial, logistical and service development centers in southern Angola and a reference point in southern Africa is under construction, in addition to the development plan for the Port of Namibe, an instrument that will define the area of ​​jurisdiction.

Built in 1954, the Port of Namibe has a permanent staff of 256 workers.
