Africa-Press – Angola. At least a thousand cases of acute respiratory diseases (ADD) were reported from November to December last year by health authorities in the municipality of Soyo, province of Zaire.

According to the general director of the Municipal Hospital, Afonso Sabino, most of the patients had fever, cough, throat irritation and headaches, symptoms similar to Covid-19, but he ruled out this being a pandemic.

Speaking to the press this Tuesday, the doctor said it was a virus, stressing that the hospital treats a daily average of 15 to 20 cases.

He warned citizens to strictly observe preventive measures, such as the use of face masks in public places, as it is a contagious disease.

He also advised abstaining from drinking fresh liquids, for whom this virus has been seen in almost all health units in the country in recent days.

With a capacity of 170 beds, Hospital Municipal do Soyo has 25 doctors and 115 nurses. Provides services in the areas of general medicine, pediatrics, maternity, infectious diseases, imaging, stomatology, surgery, among others.

The municipality of Soyo has an estimated population of over 200,000 inhabitants, spread over five communes: Mangue Grande, Sumba, Pedra do Feitiço, Quelo and Sede.
