Works at the Military Academy in Huambo resume this year

Africa-Press – Angola. The resumption of work on the Army Military Academy (AMEx), in the city of Huambo, is scheduled for this year, said this Friday, the commander of that unit, Lieutenant General José Alberto Veiga.

The general officer was hopeful due to the fact that the financial component is included in the General State Budget for 2023.

The works, started in 2012, were supposed to be delivered in 2017, according to the commander, but financial constraints forced the contractor to interrupt them.

“The physical execution of the first phase is at 60 percent”, explained the soldier, adding that those facilities will have the capacity to house 2,000 cadets.

He also informed that, with the delivery of the first phase, the complex would be able to receive the cadets of the last two courses.

About the total delivery of the same, he claimed to be depending only on the financial availability on the part of the guardianship body.

For the AMEx facilities in Huambo, the old structures of the extinct “Gomes Spencer” School of Officers, located in Bairro Santo António, were recovered.

Asked about the reasons for moving from Lobito to Huambo, he said that the current facilities no longer offer conditions for the performance of his functions, due to the demographic growth in the neighbourhood.

“It is expected that this unit will be handed over to other branches of the Angolan Armed Forces that the Superior Command deems necessary”, he clarified.

Meanwhile, this Friday, the Lieutenant General presided over the act of commitment of the Code of Honor of the Cadet, referring to students of the fifth course, whose official admission was carried out on September 30, 2022.

For this purpose, 270 cadets will specialize in infantry, tanks, land artillery, anti-air defense, telecommunications, military engineering, weapons and ammunition courses, among others.

The Army Military Academy was created on September 9, 2009, under decree no 41/09, with a view to promoting the multidisciplinary research project for national defence.
