Africa-Press – Angola. The National Team is made up of athletes with potential and during their preparation in Portugal they demonstrated their ability to, at least, qualify for the quarter-finals of the African Championship (CHAN ́2023), which started this Friday, in Algeria.
According to the president of the Cunene Provincial Football Association (APF), Germano Fernandes, Angola’s group D, comprising Mali and Mauritania, is difficult, but he believes that the national team will surprise.
“The preparation games that our squad played in Portugal demonstrated that we have a cohesive team and if we keep up this momentum we can move on to the next phase”, he reiterated.
In the 11-day internship, held in the Algarve region, the Angolans drew with Servette from Switzerland (1-1), after victories over the B team from Sport Lisboa e Benfica (1-0) and Olhanense from Portugal (2 -1).
The competition in Algeria must have 17 selections, in case Morocco (title holder) withdraws.
The National Team will make its debut next Monday (16th) against Mali, in the city of Oran, and will face Mauritania on the 20th, at the close of the group stage.
