Africa-Press – Angola. Twenty-three sows of pigs were delivered, last Saturday, to the peasants’ cooperative “Kudiva 1”, in the Vulagombe sector, Malanje municipality, as part of the project to promote pig farming, an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
In addition to this cooperative, the project plans to include other peasant organizations and 30 young entrepreneurs already trained in animal production, with a view to combating hunger in the communities. In all, 80 matrices will be delivered in the 14 municipalities of the province.
During the formal launch of the project, the provincial governor, Norberto dos Santos “Kwata Kanawa”, highlighted its relevance, as it will contribute to improving the income of peasants.
He guided the integration of more young people into the aforementioned project, with a view to reducing unemployment within this fringe. In turn, the director of the Provincial Office for Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Chipoia, informed that alongside the project to promote pig farming, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is supporting coffee production in the region, with the delivery of 80 thousand seedlings of this culture to cooperatives and associations.
In this sense, the “Kudiva 1” cooperative is being supported with the deforestation of 200 hectares for the production of coffee and other crops.
Meanwhile, the president of the cooperative, Albano Manuel, praised the ministry’s initiative, considering that it will diversify production and increase the organisation’s income. Currently, the “Kudiva 1” cooperative has funding of 30 million kwanzas and is dedicated to the production of cassava, corn, beans and cereals.
