Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço congratulated his Beninese counterpart, Romuald Wadagni, on Saturday, on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of that country’s independence, marked today, August 1st.
In a public message, the Angolan Head of State describes the date as a historic milestone of sovereignty and national affirmation, while reaffirming Angola’s commitment to strengthening ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The President also conveys wishes for good health and personal well-being to the Beninese Head of State, as well as prosperity for the people of Benin.
Relations between Angola and Benin gained new momentum with the holding of the first session of bilateral political consultations in Cotonou on July 4th, co-chaired by Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs Téte António and his Beninese counterpart, Corinne Amori Brunet.
The meeting provided an opportunity to assess the state of bilateral cooperation and identify new areas of interest, notably air connectivity, trade and investment, agriculture, culture, and memorial tourism.
In the aviation sector, Angola and Benin have finalized the text of the Air Services Agreement, which is expected to be signed soon.
The instrument aims to improve connections between the two countries, facilitate the mobility of people, and stimulate economic and commercial exchanges.
The bilateral agenda also includes strengthening the language skills of officials and senior staff from both countries, as well as diplomat training.
The first session of the Grand Joint Commission for Cooperation and the second session of bilateral diplomatic and political consultations are scheduled to take place in Luanda in 2027.
Relations between Angola and Benin are grounded in a shared history of solidarity and cooperation on the African continent.
