Africa-Press – Angola. Twenty citizens from Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Cape Verde, Cuba, Brazil, Ukraine and Zimbabwe, residing in the country, obtained Angolan nationality this Tuesday, in a ceremony led by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights , Marcy Lopez.

During the oath of the applicants for nationality through naturalization, which took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, in Luanda, the now Angolan citizens pledged to respect the Constitution and the laws of the country.

This is the fourth public ceremony for the attribution of nationality by naturalization in Angola, within the framework of the work of the Monitoring Committee for Nationality Assignment Processes, created in 2017.

The act stems from Law 2/16, of 15 April. Angolan nationality can be acquired through adoption, marriage or naturalization.

The applicant for nationality by naturalization must be of legal age, under Angolan law and the law of the State of origin, and have resided habitually and regularly in Angola for at least ten years.

The Government may, with authorization from the National Assembly, grant Angolan nationality to foreign citizens who have provided or may provide relevant services to the country or who demonstrate exceptional professional, scientific or artistic qualities.

The Minister of Justice and Human Rights recommended that new Angolan citizens participate in active political life, with a view to contributing to the country’s development.
