Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor of Cuando Cubango for the political, social and economic sector, Helena Chimena, defended Wednesday, the continued appreciation of the heroes of the 4th of February, for the new generation to cultivate the spirit of patriotism.
“Young people must be good patriots, honor the sacrifices and deeds inscribed in the history of liberation of Angolans and which cost the blood of the best sons of the country”, stated the deputy governor.
Helena Chimena, who was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 4th of February, the Day of the Beginning of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, said that it was necessary to praise and perpetuate the contribution of the heroes of the Angolan homeland, as they struggled in defense of the great designs of the Angolan people.
He referred that in this event young people need, as citizens, to continue to highlight the example of the heroes of the 4th of February, for the new generations, motivating them to participate, in an active way, in the process of creating conditions for the improvement of life in population.
The agenda of activities includes a round table, lectures, four-square futsal tournament, visit to the former prisons of colonial repression in the commune of Missombo, attached to the municipality of Menongue.
On February 4, 1961, Angolan patriots armed with machetes launched an attack on the São Paulo jail and the Casa de Reclusão, in Luanda, with the aim of freeing the unjustly imprisoned politicians.
The action gave rise to the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, which culminated in the proclamation of National Independence on November 11, 1975.
