Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Huambo, Lotti Nolika, reiterated, this Saturday, that the valorization of the heroes of February 4, 1961 constitutes an indispensable factor for the strengthening of national unity and the democratic rule of law.
The minister, who was speaking at the provincial act commemorating the 62nd anniversary of the beginning of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, which is celebrated yesterday, said that the event marks the long journey, which culminated with the proclamation of National Independence, on November 11, 1975 , hence the need to value all combatants in order to strengthen national unity.
He highlighted the importance of society’s involvement in the materialization of the construction of a just and harmonious society.
“We are called to improve ourselves, more and more, so that each one of us, yesterday and wherever we are, contributes to building a better Nation, thus honoring the heroes of the 4th of February, as worthy sons of Patria, who, without fearing the cannons and howitzers, started the fight that would bring National Independence, 14 years later”, stressed the minister.
According to Lotti Nolika, it is important that every Angolan is “worthy of continuing this noble fight”, with the tribute of all those who, underground or in guerrilla warfare, fought with the feeling of projecting a better future for the country.
The governor of Huambo province reaffirmed the desire of the Angolan Government to continue to rely on the new generations, with a view to following the example of all those who fought for independence.
Veterans of the Fatherland praise PR engagement
On the occasion, former combatants and veterans of the Motherland, in a message read during the act, praised the engagement of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in improving the social conditions of families and, in particular, of this segment of Angolan society.
They hope for greater dissemination of the achievements of national heroes, through tributes in schools and other public institutions, so that the example of bravery, courage, determination and patriotism is followed by the new generation.
Held at the Osvaldo Serra Van-Dúnem multipurpose pavilion, in the interior of the city of Huambo, under the motto “Let us preserve the values of the Motherland, honoring our heroes”, the event was brightened by the Katiavala do Bailundo group and by the artists Justino Handanga, Edna Mateia and Hander, Hernani de Vasconcelos and the quartet Os Picantes, in addition to the choir from Cidadela Jovem do Sucesso, who sang the National Anthem.
Before the act, preceded by the laying of a wreath of flowers on the tomb of the unknown soldier, in the cemetery of São Pedro, a primary and first cycle school was inaugurated, with 12 classrooms, on the outskirts of the municipality of Huambo.
It was in the early hours of February 4, 1961 that a group of women and men, armed with sticks, machetes and other bladed weapons, attacked the House of Reclusion and the Prison of São Paulo, in Luanda, to free political prisoners, threatened with death. .
The 4th of February 1961 is considered an important milestone in the African struggle against colonialism, in a tradition of resistance against the occupation that came from the peoples of Kassanje, Ndongo and the Central Plateau.
The events of February 1961 thus translated into a sublime expression of nationalism, demonstrated by Angolans.
