Government assures competitive prices in the commercialization of ANGOSAT-2 services

Africa-Press – Angola. The strategy for commercializing the capacity of ANGOSAT-2 is focused on competitive prices to encourage and increase business in totally disconnected regions, said this Friday in Luanda, the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of the ANGOSAT-2 services, he underlined that the aforementioned strategy will contribute considerably to reducing info-exclusion in Angola and on the African continent.

Mário Oliveira said that, with ANGOSAT-2 in operation, operators will have a means of communication via satellite at their disposal, thus allowing them to stop paying the rent of capacity to foreign satellites.

This, he pointed out, could certainly contribute to increasing the penetration of telecommunications services in the country, contributing to increasing digital literacy and modernizing the economy as a whole.

The minister highlighted that ANGOSAT-2 coverage covers the entire African continent, especially in the SADC region, “where we have 24 Ku-Band beams and five C-Band transponders.”

Studies indicate that countries, especially African ones, that have invested in space programs reach very satisfactory levels in terms of increased internet coverage, mobile telephony, and improvements in administrative and banking services.

“ANGOSAT-2 will allow national telecommunications operators and the Government to benefit from bandwidth capabilities, with costs based on national currency, which will allow better management of their investments and adjust them to the reality of the end user” , reinforced.

According to the minister, ANGOSAT-2 also opens up opportunities for national operators in the telecommunications sector to provide services throughout the continent and southern Europe, taking advantage of the satellite’s coverage area.

He stressed that it also represents an opportunity for entrepreneurship, in the telecommunications and information technology sector, opening up new opportunities for job creation, mainly for young people, in areas related to space technology, such as maintenance and installation of VSAT systems. , also contributing to the development of a software industry in the country.

In the minister’s view, in the African context, investments in telecommunications are fundamental requirements for economic growth, whereby satellite connectivity has been widely used as a support factor for socio-economic development.

He highlighted that the National Space Program, where ANGOSAT-2 is part, is aligned with the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations, 2063 of the African Union and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

ANGOSAT-2, the Angolan communication satellite operating in geostationary orbit, will provide services in the C, KU and KA band.

The satellite, built by the company Information Satellite Systems Reshetnev (ISS Reshetnev), is made up of two modules, namely the Express 1000 platform and the payload, the latter being the responsibility of Airbus Defense and Space .

With an expected service life of 15 years, ANGOSAT-2, launched into orbit on October 12, 2022, is one of the projects of the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), an agency assigned to the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication.
